The U Kamenného zvonu gallery is a famous Prague showplace in the historic Old Town neighbourhood. The project newly defined operation and function parameters of the U Kamenného zvonu building for contemporary needs of the gallery including new technologies and back-of-the-house. In course of time, the building was several times refurbished and centuries left their cultural imprinting in it.
The principal refurbishment (project by SÚRPMO) in 1980s “cleared” the building in compliance with the intention to emphasize the building’s Gothic origin. Materials of elements are distinct. Together with glazed areas, they clearly define themselves in the valuable historic environment. Floors had to consist of large sandstone formats in the interior and the courtyard. With respect to the Investor’s financial needs, the original paving from the 1980s was preserved.
